Tory Divisions Exposed in Heated Commons Session Over Post-Brexit Business Policy

The Tory divisions over the government's post-Brexit business policy have been exposed in a heated Commons committee session.

The business secretary, Kemi Badenoch, clashed with Tory backbenchers David Jones and Richard Drax over her decision to reduce the number of business regulations the government planned to scrap after the UK's exit from the EU.

Jones accused Badenoch of being disrespectful towards the Commons by changing the bill in the Lords after it had passed the lower house.

Drax accused her of creating distrust among some Tories who fear that the "bonfire of regulations" won't take place.

The tense exchanges reveal how Badenoch's decision to scale back the bill has angered many on the right of her party, damaging her reputation with party members, and could have an impact in any Tory leadership contest after the election.
