US and UAE Partner to Develop Massive AI Data Center Complex
A 5-gigawatt capacity data center to be built in Abu Dhabi, marking the largest deployment outside of the US
The United States and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to partner on a massive artificial intelligence data center complex in Abu Dhabi.
The project will have a capacity of 5 gigawatts, sufficient to power a major city.
The initial phase will involve the development of a 1-gigawatt AI data center, with the entire complex eventually spanning 10 square miles.
This partnership aims to advance artificial intelligence capabilities and expand the presence of American AI and cloud companies in the Middle East, enabling them to better serve the global south.
The project is part of efforts to diversify the UAE's economy, particularly in areas such as AI and technology, with the goal of becoming a global leader in artificial intelligence by 2031. Additionally, the UAE has committed to building or financing data centers in the United States that are at least as large and powerful as those in the UAE.
