TikTok Ban in the US Leaves Users and Influencers in Uncertainty

The removal of TikTok from app stores in the US stirs reactions among its vast user base, including tennis star Coco Gauff.

In an unprecedented move, TikTok was removed from Apple and Google's app stores in the United States on Saturday, following the impending enactment of a federal law aimed at banning the popular social media platform.

By 10:50 pm Eastern Standard Time, TikTok was no longer accessible for new downloads from these prominent app stores.

The ban has impacted many of TikTok's users, including tennis star Coco Gauff, who has a substantial following of over 750,000 on the platform.

Gauff, aged 20, recently advanced to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open women's singles, defeating Belinda Bencic.

However, her celebratory mood was dampened by the removal of TikTok, a platform she has engaged with since its earlier days as Musical.ly.

Gauff expressed surprise at the app's unavailability, noting her presence in Australia at the time.

Despite the ban, she acknowledged the potential for increased productivity, suggesting that the change may lead her to read more books.

"Hopefully, TikTok comes back," she said, highlighting the platform's role as a source of entertainment and relaxation before her matches.

The prohibition on TikTok's availability in app stores is set by a new law that officially came into effect on Sunday.

The ban's sudden enforcement led to a message being displayed to U.S. users attempting to access TikTok, stating that usage was temporarily halted.

President-elect Donald Trump had previously hinted at providing a window of opportunity for TikTok to negotiate an arrangement that could prevent the ban.

Trump indicated the possibility of granting TikTok 90 days to finalize a deal that would address U.S. concerns over the platform.

As the situation develops, TikTok's legal and operational strategies remain key to its potential reinstatement in the U.S. market.
