There is no vaccine that has no side effects at all, former chairman of Hospital Authority Edward Leong Che-hung said when encouraging citizens to get the jabs as soon as possible.

Leong also pointed out that citizens have to assess the the risk and benefit of getting the vaccine, which can help reduce the chances of developing adverse symptoms.

He added that citizens should make reservation for the vaccines as soon as possible. Yet those with drug allergy, high blood pressure or diabetes should consult doctors first before getting the shots, Leong said.

He said people should get the jabs for their health and the greater good of the society, even businesses have launched different incentives to boost the vaccination rate.

Leong also responded to the matter of introducing the professional practise of non locally trained doctors, saying that the city never opposed the idea.

The government earlier proposed to let non locally trained doctors to practise without passing the city's licensing exams.

Still the professional standard for the doctors should not be set too low, Leong said. He also pointed out that the examination system is the ruler for qualifying suitable candidates.

Leong also advised the government to first tackle the high employee turnover rate of the authority before handling other issues.
