Prince Harry Sues Mirror Group Newspapers Over Alleged Phone Hacking and Intrusion

Prince Harry is suing Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN) over allegations of phone hacking and illegal intrusion into his private life.

MGN admits phone hacking took place at its newspapers, but denies that Harry was ever a target.

The trial will examine 33 stories published in the Daily Mirror, Sunday Mirror, and The People, and Prince Harry's lawyers say these were the result of illegal newsgathering between 1996 and 2010.

MGN has admitted that a private investigator was instructed to unlawfully gather information about Prince Harry's conduct in a nightclub in 2004, but this incident is not part of his claim for breach of privacy.

Some of the stories Harry alleges were obtained through hacking include those about his childhood, school days, and family matters.

The trial will examine if the information was private, reasonably private, or trivial.

MGN is expected to argue that the information was in the public domain already or that it was provided by the Palace or essentially public knowledge.

Prince Harry had a series of relationships during his adolescent and young adult years, which were heavily covered by the tabloid media.

In 2002, he was reported to have been warned by his father Prince Charles for smoking cannabis.

The next day, the Daily Mirror reported that Harry was "very fed up and very cheesed off" at being chaperoned.

The articles primarily concern Harry's love life, with the largest chunk of articles detailing his relationship with Chelsy Davy.

The Duke of Sussex has claimed that part of the reason for their eventual split was that she was being hounded by the press and photographers.

The Duke's team claims that the press obtained information about their location through illegal intrusion, specifically through the targeting of their mobile phones.

The People reported in April 2009 that Harry had been "bombarding" Chelsy with calls in an attempt to win her back.
