Thai airport travelator tears through tourist's leg, amputation necessary

She reportedly tripped over her suitcase and got her leg caught, and the travelator tore through her bone.

The emergency stop button was pressed, but the travelator continued to run, leading to the decision to amputate her left leg above the knee.

The incident occurred on Thursday morning, and the travelator has been sealed off.

The woman was initially taken to Karun Hospital, where she was told reattaching her severed limb was not feasible.

Authorities claimed that the woman's suitcase was missing two wheels, and the protective yellow plates were visibly broken.

Don Mueang Airport officials confirmed that they are deeply saddened by the incident and are taking responsibility, as well as providing medical expenses and compensation.
