Transport for London (TfL) could be forced to refund around half a million parking tickets if it loses a landmark High Court case.
TfL challenged a ruling in four cases where it was prevented from using CCTV camera images to send £160 fines to motorists who it believed had parked illegally in parking or loading bays on Red Routes, the capital's network of main roads.
TfL issued 212,712 penalty charge notices to vehicles parking in Red Route bays in the last 12 months, generating an estimated £17 million in revenue. A ruling is not expected for several weeks.
