Sean 'Diddy' Combs Faces Federal Trial on Sex Trafficking and Racketeering Charges

Prosecution presents testimony and evidence alleging coercion, abuse, and criminal enterprise spanning over a decade
Sean "Diddy" Combs, the 55-year-old music mogul, is currently on trial in the Southern District of New York, facing federal charges including sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy, and transportation for purposes of prostitution.

The trial commenced on May 5, 2025, with opening statements and witness testimonies beginning on May 12.

The prosecution's case centers on allegations that Combs orchestrated a criminal enterprise over a span of two decades, involving the coercion of women into drug-fueled sexual encounters, referred to as "Freak Offs." These events allegedly involved the use of narcotics and were often recorded without consent.

Key testimony has been provided by Casandra "Cassie" Ventura, Combs' former girlfriend, who described enduring physical and sexual abuse throughout their 11-year relationship.

Ventura testified that she was coerced into participating in the "Freak Offs" and that Combs used recordings of these events to blackmail her.

She also recounted an incident in 2011 where Combs demanded $20,000 from her and threatened to release explicit videos after discovering her relationship with rapper Kid Cudi.

Ventura's mother corroborated this account, stating that they took out a home equity loan to meet the demand, though the money was later returned.

Additional testimony came from Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Gerard Gannon, who detailed the findings from a March 2024 search of Combs' Miami Beach residence.

Items recovered included firearms with defaced serial numbers, various narcotics such as cocaine and ketamine, and paraphernalia associated with the alleged "Freak Offs."

Clinical and forensic psychologist Dr. Dawn Hughes testified as an expert witness, providing insights into the psychological dynamics of abusive relationships.

She explained that victims often remain with their abusers due to emotional bonds and financial dependence, and that trauma can impact memory and disclosure patterns.

Dr. Hughes clarified that she had not assessed any individuals involved in the case and was offering general information based on her expertise.

Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The trial is ongoing, with further testimonies and evidence expected in the coming weeks.
