Chang, who is part of For Peace Taiwan – a group promoting Palestinian voices founded during Israel’s October offensive – believes it's inconsistent for those supporting Taiwan's independence not to also champion Palestinian freedom.
Despite Taiwan's official pro-Israel stance and a society influenced by the country's relationship with the United States, Chang draws on Taiwan's experiences with China's territorial claims to empathize with Palestine.
For Peace Taiwan, comprising around 20 volunteers, raises awareness through Mandarin-translated pro-Palestinian social media content, rallies, dialogue, and media engagement.
Recent polls by the Taiwan Public Opinion Foundation indicate minority support for Palestine in Taiwan, with a significant portion of the population undecided on the issue – a group For Peace Taiwan seeks to inform.
Pin-Tsun Huang, another volunteer, aligns Taiwan's situation with Palestine's, highlighting silenced voices due to China's and Israel's influence. Both Chang and Huang stress that human rights transcend nationality, calling for attention to what they label as genocide in Palestine.
Activist Brian Hioe, editor of New Bloom, advocates for a media shift in Taiwan to increase awareness of the Palestinian perspective and promote solidarity with global struggles for freedom and against oppression.
