Food prices have risen by 18.7% in May, the highest rate in Western Europe, and supermarkets claim they are passing on savings to customers as soon as they can.

However, some prices for milk, cheese, and eggs are still up 27.4% compared to last year.

Supermarkets say they are competitive and price caps are not needed.
