A knitting group from ExtraCare's Stoke Gifford Retirement Village who have created an 8-foot-high knitted replica of the London Cenotaph for Remembrance Sunday. About 20 retirees participated in this project, which began in July this year.

The knitted structure is composed of woollen "bricks" that were sewn together and covered over. The flags and decorations on the cenotaph are also knitted, and the words "The Glorious Dead" have been embroidered onto it.

This isn't the group's first project of this nature. Last year, they made a 6-foot soldier for Remembrance Sunday, which now stands next to the newly created cenotaph. Additionally, they crafted a knitted Queen to mark Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee, receiving a written response from the late monarch for their work.

Jenny Rogers, one of the knitters, expressed her satisfaction with the final product. The knitted cenotaph and soldier are on display at the reception building of the retirement village, available for anyone to view.
