The Met Police had promised to provide an explanation after the BBC revealed several failings related to a sixth murder suspect following a year-long investigation.

Baroness Lawrence stated in a personal message to Met Police commissioner Mark Rowley that there are still three suspects at large in the case and that potential witnesses may be able to help if the investigation is reopened.

She emphasized the importance of actively looking for evidence in order to find it.
