Stansted Airport drive-in cinema 'will not distract pilots'

London Stansted Airport is set to host a temporary drive-in cinema in its JetParks car park for charity in December. Airport officials have assured that the large LED screen used for the cinema will not distract pilots as it will be located far from the runway and not on the flight path.

The event, cleared with authorities and compliant with regulations, will feature Christmas classics like "Elf" and "Home Alone," as well as "Dirty Dancing," "Grease," and "Top Gun: Maverick."

Alex Reed, the airport's business operations manager, addressed concerns about noise from planes affecting the cinema experience.

The setup includes personal speakers for each car to ensure sound is contained within the vehicles, minimizing the impact of plane noise. The event will show two films per day and is being held while the JetParks car park is closed for winter.

All proceeds from the cinema event will go to charities Medcare, Magic Breakfast, and the Children's Society. This initiative is part of the airport's effort to find creative ways to raise money for charity.
