St. George's Day: Six Arrests, Disorder at Whitehall Event with Tommy Robinson
On St George's Day in central London, six people were arrested by the Metropolitan Police.
One man was arrested for suspected animal cruelty after a police horse was targeted.
Three individuals were held for assaulting an emergency worker, and one was suspected of assault.
Another person was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.
A video shared by the Met showed officers forming a cordon as a group pushed past it, leading to the closure of Whitehall to traffic.
After the situation was resolved, a large police presence remained opposite Downing Street where a group had gathered.
The event had not yet started, and the Met expressed regret over the early disorder.
A group of people, some wearing masks, ignored a police cordon and continued to an event in Richmond Terrace, where far-right activist Tommy Robinson was speaking.
When officers asked them to turn back, the group became violent and pushed through the cordon.
Mounted officers intervened to restore order.
Earlier, a Section 60AA order was in effect in Lambeth and Westminster, allowing officers to request the removal of face coverings.
Attendees were seen waving St George's Cross flags during the speeches.
