Malaga hit a provisional record of 29.9C (85.8F). Other locations also surpassed previous benchmarks, indicative of a shift linked to climate change according to experts.

This warmth endangers winter sports, reliant on ample snowfall, which is also vital for water reserves post-thaw. At Navacerrada, a once snow-rich resort, visitors expressed dismay over the bare landscape.

A retired professor noted the absence of expected snow levels, while a marine biologist highlighted the abnormal greenery in what should be a seasonally frosted environment.
