Residents in South London are protesting against plans to expand the Beddington Incinerator in Sutton, which would increase the amount of rubbish it can burn by ten percent.
The incinerator, operated by waste company Viridor, is already in close proximity to residential areas, and residents are concerned about the potential health impacts of increased emissions.
Over 200 public comments in opposition to the expansion have been submitted to the Environment Agency, which is currently reviewing the case. Some residents have reported experiencing health issues and discomfort due to the emissions from the incinerator, and they fear that the expansion will worsen these problems.
