South London Clash Leaves Four Police Officers Injured

Four officers were hurt and eight arrests were made following a protest in south London, according to Metropolitan Police. The skirmish occurred in Camberwell, sparked by Eritrean community tensions. Video showed individuals brandishing sticks and disrupting traffic.

Around 50 protesters convened outside a venue before the situation escalated. Despite the unrest near The Lighthouse Theatre, police maintained a significant presence into Saturday night.

The eight arrests included charges of violent disorder, property damage, weapon possession, and assaulting an emergency worker. One injured officer required hospitalization but has since been released.

Law enforcement dispersed the crowd and received reinforcement. A dispersal order effective until Sunday morning grants police authority to remove individuals from the vicinity.

Officers had engaged with organizers of a private event on Camberwell Road before the disturbance broke out among the gathered protesters outside.
