SNP Politician Kate Forbes Withdraws from Leadership Race Amid Backlash over Religious Views

She says that people of faith are becoming "fearful" of expressing their beliefs in politics and that her experience has led her to believe that religious individuals are being squeezed out of political life.

Ms. Forbes received thousands of messages from people who disagreed with her views but supported her right to express them, and she does not regret what she said.

She thinks that the public scrutiny of her religious views was different from that of her opponent, Humza Yousaf, who is a Muslim and supported gay marriage.

Ms. Forbes believes that people of faith should not have to "pick and choose" their beliefs to be electable.

Kate Forbes, a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician, has been vocal about her Christian beliefs and has faced criticism for her stance on issues such as same-sex marriage.

Despite this, she has maintained that she will defend the rights of same-sex couples to marry and uphold the laws that have been passed.

After the SNP's defeat in the 2021 Scottish Parliament election, Forbes is now considering her future in politics, but plans to remain in the SNP and continue to represent her constituency.
