Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico insists that Ukraine must cede territory to Russia to halt the ongoing conflict and maintains his stance against Ukraine's NATO membership.

Fico, leading the country since his Smer party's election victory, campaigned on halting weapons transfers to Ukraine, blocking its NATO bid, and opposing sanctions against Russia. He plans to use his veto power to prevent Ukraine's inclusion in NATO, claiming it could trigger World War III.
Further criticizing Ukraine's independence, Fico claims the country is under the complete sway of the U.S. and labels it highly corrupt. He confirmed Slovakia will not supply weapons to Ukraine.
Fico also recently supported Hungary's stance in blocking a major EU financial aid package for Ukraine and announced Slovakia will renew cultural ties with Russia and Belarus, suspended since Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine.
