Turner Prize-winning artist Sir Grayson Perry criticized EDF Energy after his electricity bill soared from £300 to £39,000.

The 63-year-old shared his frustration on social media, claiming EDF attempted to withdraw the staggering sum directly from his bank account.

Similarly, ex-BBC journalist and current podcast presenter Jon Sopel experienced a hike in his monthly bill from £152 to £18,000 but has since resolved the issue.

EDF responded, stating it couldn't discuss individual cases but assured that these incidents are isolated and not indicative of broader billing errors. The company noted that significant direct debit changes are typically prevented by their safeguards, and errors are usually corrected without affecting customers.
