Sir Bobby Charlton, the legendary England and Manchester United footballer, died after an accidental fall at a care home, according to an inquest. The 86-year-old was residing at The Willows in Knutsford, a nursing home for dementia patients.
He lost his balance while standing up from a chair, striking a window sill and possibly a radiator. Although staff initially found no visible injuries and noted unaffected mobility, they later observed swelling on his back.
Sir Bobby was taken to a local hospital, where he was diagnosed with fractured ribs and a high risk of developing pneumonia. Doctors placed him on end-of-life care, and he passed away five days later.
The coroner concluded that the cause of death was trauma to the lungs, a fall, and dementia. Sir Bobby Charlton was a football legend, known for his contributions to England's 1966 World Cup victory and his successful career with Manchester United.
