Shopify Tests AI-Powered Translation Bot for Customer-Support Staff

Shopify is testing an OpenAI-powered translation bot for its customer-support staff, which is the latest AI experiment in the company's support division.

The new tool is built directly into Shopify's internal chat tool, called Athena, and is expected to be tested by some of the customer-support team members this month.

The company has previously implemented AI for its employees and merchants, such as using AI-generated template email responses to merchant inquiries and a ChatGPT-powered shopping assistant for its Shop app.

Shopify has also launched a tool called Shopify Magic, which uses generative AI to write product descriptions.

However, some staff members are concerned that the new tool will result in fewer employees being required to do translation work in the future.
