The BBC crime drama "Shetland" is back with its eighth series, introducing a new lead, Ashley Jensen as DI Ruth Calder, who replaces the long-standing Douglas Henshall as DI Jimmy Perez.
The show retains its familiar characters, like Alison O'Donnell's DI 'Tosh' McIntosh, while infusing new energy with Jensen's character, known for her straightforward approach.
The latest series features a plot involving a witness to a London gangland murder who flees to Shetland, with DI Calder, a Shetlander working for the Met Police, assigned to the case.
The show continues to offer stunning landscapes, a strong female-led cast with newcomers like Lorraine McIntosh, and maintains its core with some cast changes. Filmed in Shetland and Glasgow, the new season promises twists and intrigue, aiming to retain long-time fans and attract new viewers.
