The castle, known as Brough Lodge, is a category A listed building of national significance and is situated on the northwest end of Fetlar.
It was built by merchant Arthur Nicholson and features folly towers, a courtyard, and walled gardens.
The Brough Lodge Trust has appealed for a "philanthropic entrepreneur" to take on plans to transform the site into a world-class retreat, preserving the existing building and creating 24 bedrooms and a restaurant.
However, the trust warns that potential buyers will need deep pockets to cover the cost of the renovations.
