Police divers in Sheerness, Kent, discovered £10 million worth of cocaine weighing 137kg (302lbs) hidden below the water line of a Panamanian-registered container ship carrying bananas.
The drugs were found in four large holdalls in the ship's sea chest, an intake area for seawater that assists with stability. The ship was bound for the Netherlands, but an NCA-led search of the vessel at Sheerness Port in October led to the seizure.
This is only the second time such an underwater concealment of class A drugs has been discovered in the UK, the last being in Bristol in November 2021.
