Serving Met Police Officer Faces Rape Charges in Court

A Metropolitan Police officer, PC Andrej Sagaidak of the South-East London unit, was charged in court with rape, strangulation, and causing bodily harm.

The charges concern an incident reported to have taken place in Islington, North London. The officer has been suspended and first appeared in Westminster Magistrates' Court, with a following appearance scheduled for Snaresbrook Crown Court on February 2.

Detective Chief Superintendent Trevor Lawry expressed serious concern over the allegations. The Met is undergoing an investigation, noting the officer was off-duty when the alleged crimes occurred, and has reported the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
