Senior Metropolitan Police officer Cdr Julian Bennett, who played a role in developing the force's anti-drug strategy, may face dismissal for refusing to provide a urine sample for cannabis testing.

The actions of Mr. Bennett were found to constitute gross misconduct. While he was cleared of smoking cannabis, his former flatmate had accused him of using it daily before work at New Scotland Yard. When asked to provide a sample in 2020, he offered to resign on the spot and requested a meeting with then-commissioner Dame Cressida Dick. The decision on whether Mr. Bennett should be dismissed will be made later.
