See how green paint and marble splash-backs transformed a drab small kitchen

See how green paint and marble splash-backs transformed a drab small kitchen

This small green kitchen is unrecognisable from the dated and poky space it once was – see the before and after project

This small green kitchen makeover proves that size really doesn't matter where it comes to creating a well-designed space. As far as small kitchen ideas go, this dramatic transformation is a master class in bringing out the best in a small room.

The kitchen was commissioned by a private client for deVOL who have described both the joys and the challenges of this London-based project.

The 900-square-foot flat in Paddington required a radical kitchen remodel from fixtures to kitchen worktops, but it also badly needed an injection of personality, which the rich forest-green and marble color scheme amply provides. The brass accents give an opulent and glamorous touch to the otherwise classic kitchen that uses deVOL Shaker cabinetry.

Commenting on the stunning result, deVOL said: 'It makes us so happy to see that you don’t always need bespoke sized pieces to create the overall look of a bespoke kitchen.' Although standard-sized cupboards were used, there's nothing standard about the final look of this kitchen where nothing is out of place.

A large part of why the design works so well in this kitchen is that the space is blessed with high ceilings, which made it possible to work with height while freeing up floor space. 'The flat had really high ceilings so building up made total sense, one tall run with bags of storage, double stacked Miele ovens, an integrated fridge and freezer and a large pantry cupboard was so practical and allowed the rest of the room to feel uncluttered and easy-going.'

After

The kitchen has an l-shaped layout which many people believe to be difficult to work with, but in this case, the layout actually works perfectly as an open-plan cooking and dining space. There's even a 'squishy sofa just out of shot' that is used for after-dinner relaxation.

But, the layout and striking color aside, it's the exquisite smaller details that make this kitchen transformation so memorable: the finished room features a fluted sink, quirky handcrafted Boho cup handles, aged brass shelf brackets and the ultimate set of taps - deVOL Ionian style paired with a very handy instant boiling hot water tap.

It may be small in size, but this kitchen is big on design – an inspiration for anyone with a small space that needs a new lease of life.
