The Scottish Covid Inquiry is investigating Scotland's response to the pandemic, aiming to establish the facts and learn lessons for future public health emergencies.
It examines 12 elements, including health and social care, PPE supply, care homes, financial support, and pandemic planning. Unlike the UK Covid-19 Inquiry, which covers all of the UK, the Scottish inquiry focuses on areas under the control of the Scottish government.
The inquiry, chaired by Lord Brailsford, has faced delays and includes public consultations and research. Core participants, including bereaved families, are giving opening statements in the initial phase focusing on health and social care, with further themes to follow.
