Last year, Scotland pledged £750,000 to the agency for Gaza relief, yet various nations have halted funding because UNRWA dismissed employees supposedly linked to the 7th October assault claimed by Israel.

UNRWA, investigating these claims, asserts it will take action against any staff engaged in terrorism.

Concerned about these accusations, the Scottish government has halted further assistance to UNRWA and is in dialogue for updates on the ongoing investigation.

As the debate over maintaining essential humanitarian aid to Gaza heightens, both the UK and the US have similarly paused funding. Nevertheless, Ireland continues its support due to UNRWA's critical aid to over 2 million individuals.

UNRWA has been vital in Gaza since its inception in 1949 and employs 13,000 people to provide various humanitarian services. However, an Israeli advisor to the prime minister has implicated UNRWA staff in the 7th October violence, with evidence suggesting celebration by UNRWA teachers and accusations from a hostage.

UNRWA's chief, Philippe Lazzarini, has assured a thorough investigation leading to the immediate termination of involved staff members.

The terror incident on 7th October, led by Hamas, resulted in the death of about 1,300 people, mostly civilians. In response, Israel’s counter-attacks in Gaza have claimed over 26,000 Palestinian lives, as reported by the Hamas-controlled health ministry.
