The Mayor of London Sadiq Khan has sent Londoners an important message just days into the second national lockdown.

The capital and the rest of England entered a second lockdown on Thursday (November 5), with non-essential shops, pubs, bar and restaurants as well as gyms and leisure centres closing.

Once again there are only a number of reasons permitted for people leaving their homes - such as exercise, work and shopping for food - and it's hoped these stricter measures will curb the growing coronavirus rates in the country.

Mr Khan has urged Londoners to follow the rules, which are currently due to end on Wednesday, December 2.

The Mayor tweeted: "My message to you all this weekend and for the month ahead is simple: Stay at home.

"Protect yourself, your family and your loved ones.

"If we follow the rules, we will get through this. #LondonTogether."

The new rules state people can go out to exercise, work, shop for food and essentials or visit members of your support bubble.

The rules also state you can go out for education or to provide care.

In addition, there are a number of reasons people can be exempt from these rules. These include for medical concerns, reasons, appointments and emergencies.

You can also leave your home to avoid or escape risk of injury or harm such as domestic abuse.

Unlike the first lockdown there is no time limit on how long we can exercise for and we can go outdoors for recreational activities with our own households or with one person from another household.
