London Mayor, Sadiq Khan, has announced that the eligibility criteria for the Ulez scrappage scheme, which offers grants to help Londoners scrap polluting vehicles and replace them with cleaner models, will be expanded.

This news comes after pressure from MPs and borough leaders in Khan's own party.

The original scheme was only open to low-income or disabled Londoners, as well as charities and small businesses.

The new scheme, which will be rolled out at the end of July, will cover all families in receipt of child benefit, as well as businesses with up to 50 employees.

Khan has not announced any new funding for the scheme, but he is optimistic that the government may provide funding.

Khan also hinted that he would be willing to add money to the scheme using City Hall funding if necessary.

The Ulez scrappage scheme is currently being expanded to cover the whole of Greater London, with drivers of non-compliant vehicles charged £12.50 per day for travelling within the zone.
