The WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico, are set to determine the year-end world number one spot in women's tennis, with top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka aiming to fend off Poland's Iga Swiatek.

Sabalenka currently leads the rankings by 630 points and can secure the year-end top spot by reaching the final with a 2-1 group stage record. Swiatek, who has won multiple titles this year, including the French Open, needs to perform exceptionally well, including potentially winning the title, to have a chance at becoming year-end world number one.

The tournament features eight top players competing in round-robin group matches to decide semi-final pairings, with the championship match scheduled for November 5.
