Yury Borisov, the CEO of Roscosmos, which oversees Russian space endeavors, indicated that the project would be automated and the technology for it is nearing readiness.

The initiative, mentioned by Borisov at the World Youth Festival, aligns with a 2021 agreement between Roscosmos and the China National Space Administration to collaborate on the International Lunar Research Station.

Under China's plan, the Chang'e 6, 7, and 8 missions will lay the groundwork for a remotely operated robotic lunar base, with mission launches beginning in 2026 and project completion expected by 2028.
