A runner with a stoma, who had to withdraw from the New York City Marathon due to restrictions on her stoma and water supplies, has received assurance from the organizers of the Chicago Marathon that she can compete with her stoma and hydration equipment if she secures a place.
Gayle, who requires self-catheterization six times a day after surgeries for endometriosis, emphasized the need for accessibility at all races, as every stoma is different, and accessibility should not be a difficult issue.
She is relieved to have received this reassurance and hopes it sets a positive precedent for other races.
