British Volunteer Captured by Russian Forces in Ukraine
James Scott Rhys Anderson Identified as Captive in Kursk Region
James Scott Rhys Anderson, a 22-year-old former British Army private, has reportedly been captured by Russian forces while fighting for Ukraine.
In a video shared online, Anderson, dressed in military attire, confirms his identity and mentions his service in the British Army from 2019 to 2023.
Russian news agency Tass reports that Anderson, referred to as a 'UK mercenary', was taken prisoner in the Kursk area, a region where Ukraine launched a surprise offensive on August 6, 2023, gaining significant ground.
The UK Foreign Secretary stated that efforts are underway to support Anderson.
Anderson's father, Scott, expressed concern for his son’s safety, acknowledging fears of torture.
The younger Anderson had joined Ukraine's International Legion after being motivated by news reports and losing his job.
He traveled from Luton to Poland before crossing into Ukraine.
The ongoing conflict in the Kursk region involves approximately 50,000 Russian troops engaged in heavy combat to regain lost territory.
The UK Foreign Office confirmed ongoing support for Anderson's family amid developments.
