Shaheen made her announcement on X, formerly known as Twitter, following her departure from the Labour Party on Tuesday.
She claims her deselection was due to liking posts that allegedly downplayed antisemitism allegations.
In her statement, Shaheen mentioned that she made this decision after numerous community members expressed their lack of trust in Labour and dissatisfaction with the Tory government.
Shaheen emphasized her deep connections to the area, having grown up and currently living there, and invited volunteers to support her campaign.
She accused the Labour Party of penalizing her for discussing her experiences with Islamophobia and other issues like Palestine, while a Labour spokesperson reaffirmed the party's focus on winning the upcoming elections.
Other declared candidates for the seat include Chris Brody (Green Party), Josh Hadley (Liberal Democrats), Yousaff Khan (Workers Party of Britain), Paul Luggeri (Reform UK), Sir Iain Duncan Smith (Conservative Party), and Shama Tatler (Labour Party).
