British Muslim Candidate Resigns from Labour Party
Faiza Shaheen, a British Muslim Labour candidate, has resigned after being barred from running in the general elections, citing a hierarchy of racism within the party. She was suspended for criticizing Islamophobia and supporting posts condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza. Shaheen decried the process as unfair and might run independently against her replacement.

Shaheen, an economist known for her work on inequality, intended to contest the Chingford and Woodford Green seat but faced penalization for criticizing Islamophobia and supporting social media posts condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza.
Following her suspension by the Labour National Executive Committee, Shaheen stepped down and indicated she might run independently against her replacement, Shama Tatler, who is affiliated with the Jewish Labour Movement.
Shaheen decried the decision as a 'sham process' influenced by unfair treatment and hostility.
The left-wing Labour group Momentum accused the party of purging leftist members and imposing outsiders like Tatler.
Shaheen emphasized her longstanding opposition to Conservative policies and called her departure from Labour both 'cruel' and 'devastating.'
