Netherlands Clinch Euro 2024 Semifinal Spot Against England

The Netherlands secured their Euro 2024 semifinal spot after defeating Turkey with a decisive own goal by Mert Muldur. Key moments included goals from Stefan De Vrij and Wout Weghorst's impactful second-half play. The Netherlands will now face England, with Turkey struggling without key defender Merih Demiral amid diplomatic tensions.
The Netherlands secured their place in the Euro 2024 semifinals with a narrow victory over Turkey, thanks to an own goal by Mert Muldur in the 76th minute.

This came just six minutes after Stefan De Vrij canceled out Samet Akaydin's first-half goal for Turkey.

Dutch striker Wout Weghorst, standing 1.97 meters tall, made a significant impact after his second-half entrance, helping his team create more chances and hold onto possession.

Dutch coach Ronald Koeman praised his players for their determination, citing their 'big heart' as key to the win.

Turkey’s evening was complicated by the absence of defender Merih Demiral, suspended for a nationalistic gesture in a previous match.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the game amid diplomatic tensions with Germany.

Germany, home to a substantial Turkish community, saw their fans outnumber the Dutch.

Despite a spirited performance, Turkey couldn’t regain the lead after De Vrij’s equalizer and Muldur’s own goal.

The Netherlands now face England in the semifinals in Dortmund on Wednesday, while Spain will meet France in the other semifinal on Tuesday.
