In a significant crackdown on violent disorder, several individuals have been sentenced for their participation in riots across the UK.

Nathan Palmer, 29, and Niven Matthewman, 19, received two years and eight months imprisonment for their role in attacking a Holiday Inn in Rotherham, where asylum seekers were housed.

Sheffield Crown Court hearings highlighted that Palmer was on license for drug offenses and participated in the riot, affecting his grandmother's end-of-life care.

Matthewman incited violence and was caught on video instigating chaos.

Other notable sentences include Donna Conniff, 40, who was jailed for two years in Hartlepool for throwing bricks at police officers, and David Notley, 67, who received 20 months for religiously aggravated disorder in London.

Dean Groenewald, 32, was sentenced to over two years for his part in Sunderland riots, while incidents in Southport led to sentences for David Engleby, Paul Dryhurst, and Luke Summerfield.

Graham Brookes, 42, and Thomas Ward, 35, were also jailed for violent behavior in Manchester.

The UK government has initiated Operation Early Dawn to address severe prison overcrowding, impacting court and prison operations.
