President Donald Trump has agreed to freeze tariffs on Mexico for one month after a conversation with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum.
During the call, Sheinbaum agreed to send 10,000 Mexican soldiers to patrol the U.S.-Mexico border to address the flow of fentanyl and illegal migrants into the United States.
The decision to freeze the tariffs, which were previously planned to take effect, follows a diplomatic negotiation aimed at improving border security.
As part of the agreement, the two countries will enter into further talks led by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Treasury Scott Bessent, and Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, along with high-level representatives from Mexico.
Trump expressed optimism about the discussions, stating that both nations will work towards a mutually beneficial agreement.
