Sweden is grappling with an alarming rise in violence, as the country reported 317 explosions in 2024, marking a sharp escalation in gang-related conflicts.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson addressed the issue in a press conference on Thursday, acknowledging the government's lack of control over the growing violence.

'Sweden is in the midst of a new wave of violence; particularly the number of explosions, which is increasing, with almost one occurring every day,' Kristersson stated.

'It is clear that we do not have control over this wave of violence; otherwise, we wouldn't be here,' he added.

The start of 2025 has seen an average of one explosion per day, with 27 incidents reported by January 27, including several explosions in residential areas, according to Nordic Times.

The surge in violence has raised significant concerns about the safety of Swedish citizens and the effectiveness of law enforcement in combating gang-related crime.

Kristersson's admission underscores the severity of the situation, as the government faces increasing pressure to address the root causes of the violence and take more decisive action to restore order.
