Sunak committed the UK to £2.5 billion in aid for the 2024/25 period, a boost of £200 million from prior years, and confirmed a bilateral deal—the UK-Ukraine Agreement on Security Cooperation—representing a G7 first.

Despite Russia's menacing response and the US aid deadlock in Congress, Sunak emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine as an investment in global security.

Accompanied by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Sunak underlined the dangers of President Putin's potential victory and the risks it poses to global security by empowering nations like North Korea and Iran.

The UK will also send a significant number of drones, valued at £200 million, to boost Ukraine's defense capabilities. The security pact ensures "swift and sustained" UK support if Russia launches further attacks on Ukraine, encompassing intelligence, cybersecurity, and military collaboration.

However, experts note the limitations of the UK's promises without continued US financial support. Despite this, Ukraine welcomed the UK's leadership in upholding the G7's security assurances, with Ihor Zhovkva, deputy head of the president's office, highlighting the move as a step towards a long-lasting strategic partnership.
