A record-breaking number of applicants, totaling over 840,000, have submitted entries for the 2025 London Marathon, surpassing the previous record of 578,000 set in the 2024 ballot.
Of these applicants, 672,631 were from the United Kingdom, with 50.33% being male and 49.03% female.
An additional 167,687 applications came from non-UK residents through the international ballot.
The London Marathon saw 53,000 finishers complete the 26.2-mile course this year, with 44 Guinness World Records being broken and £67m raised for charity.
Hugh Brasher, the event director for the TCS London Marathon, expressed his amazement at the record-breaking total and highlighted the significant increase in female applicants, which rose from approximately 43% in 2024 to 49% in 2025, bringing applications from men and women closer to parity.
