Qatari Sports Investments Shift Focus Away from Tottenham Hotspur, Pursue La Liga and Brasileiro Clubs

Qatari Sports Investments (QSI), led by PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, has shifted its focus away from Tottenham Hotspur after exploratory talks in January.

Despite initial interest, QSI has cooled on acquiring a minority stake in the North London club, and has instead pursued investments in La Liga's Malaga, relegated Serie A side Sampdoria, and Brazilian club Santos.

The reason for this change is due to UEFA regulations that prohibit clubs with the same controlling owners from competing against each other in Europe.

QSI aims to follow this rule by acquiring minority stakes in these clubs.

The group has already acquired a 21.7% stake in Portuguese club SC Braga, who finished third in the league this season, and acquired an ownership stake in Belgian top-flight club KAS Eupen in 2012.

In addition, QSI met with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy in a London hotel in January for exploratory talks on buying a minority stake in the club.

However, Spurs have consistently denied such talks and have stated that the club is not for sale.

Despite this, QSI is expected to eventually seek an investment in England as it aims to build a multi-club model.

Al-Khelaifi's Qatari Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad al Thani is among the bidders currently vying to buy Manchester United from the Glazer family.

QSI has stated that Sheikh Jassim's interest in Manchester United would not impact its future plans to invest in English football.
