Qantas Modernizes Uniform Style Guide, Allows Staff to Wear Make-up and Jewellery Irrespective of Gender

Qantas has updated its uniform style guide to allow staff to wear make-up, have long hair, and jewellery regardless of their sex.

Women are no longer required to wear high heels or tights/stockings with skirts, and men can grow their hair long and wear jewellery.

The changes follow a call from the Australian Services Union to modernize the dress policy.

Qantas is part of a broader move by airlines to soften gender-based dress codes, with British Airways allowing women to wear trousers in 2016 and Virgin Atlantic scrapping different clothing for men and women in 2021.

Qantas made the announcement as it prepares for new leadership, with CEO Alan Joyce stepping down and CFO Vanessa Hudson set to take over in November.
