The Kremlin clarified that Putin, in a recent interview, simply restated Russia's nuclear policy and did not hint at deploying nuclear arms in Ukraine.

Putin mentioned that deploying US troops to Ukraine would escalate tensions but denied any intent to use tactical nuclear weapons.

The White House criticized Russia's nuclear rhetoric as reckless, but Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov accused the West of deliberately misinterpreting Putin's statements and ignoring his disavowal of nuclear weapon use in Ukraine.
