The path to peace lies in genuine compromise: safeguards for Ukraine from Russian advances, and for Russia from NATO expansion. Only such reciprocity could turn fragile diplomacy into a lasting ceasefire.
Keeping energy prices high and letting the arms industry thrive is obviously the European leaders’ motivation. But can we really blame only them and not also Russia?
The deep divide over territory, security guarantees, and the shape of any resolution suggests that even as diplomacy intensifies, the path ahead remains fraught — and that only genuine compromises, including credible safeguards for Ukraine from Russia, and safeguards for Russia from NATO, could offer a chance at a durable ceasefire.
Anything else is secondary.
