Security and police officers quickly detained the protester and arrested 30 others in connection with the event.
The British Horseracing Authority (BHA) criticized the racecourse for allowing the race to start while a protester was on the track, calling it "reckless and dangerous behavior." The Jockey Club, the organizers of the event, spent extra money on security measures to prevent disruptions and have arrested 12 suspected protesters on the grounds of Epsom racecourse.
In the 2022 Epsom Derby, jockey Ryan Moore won for the third time by guiding Auguste Rodin to victory.
The race was moved from its usual time slot of 16:30 to avoid conflicts with the FA Cup final.
In April, animal rights activists delayed the start of the Grand National at Aintree by getting onto the track, and similar protests were attempted at the Scottish Grand National the following week.
Animal Rising spokesperson Nathan McGovern stated that their goal is to continue the conversation about the broken relationship between humans and animals and nature.
