Prominent Chinese Financial Journalist Banned from Weibo for Critical Posts on Economy

Wu Xiaobo, a prominent Chinese financial journalist with 4.7 million followers on Weibo, has been banned from the platform for violating "relevant laws and regulations." Content moderators on Weibo blocked three verified users, including Wu, for spreading "smears against the development of the securities market" and "hyping up the unemployment rate." Wu's Weibo account has been scrubbed of all content posted since April 2022, and his regular column on the website of the Chinese financial magazine Caixin has detailed the country's economic issues, including a declining birthrate and skyrocketing youth unemployment.
